The latest injury update from Brazil's top club, São Paulo, has been grim for star forward Lucas Moura. The 25-year-old Brazilian international sustained a knee injury during training on Friday and will be out for several weeks.
Moura was involved in a collision with teammate Rodrigo Caio and landed awkwardly on his left knee while attempting to get up. He was taken to hospital where he underwent scans which confirmed the extent of the damage. The diagnosis is serious enough that it could rule him out of action for the rest of the season.
The news comes as a huge blow for São Paulo who have struggled this year, sitting bottom of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A table. Moura is one of the team's most important players,Ligue 1 Focus scoring 14 goals and providing 8 assists in all competitions so far this season.
Despite the setback, the club remains optimistic about their chances of avoiding relegation and staying in the top flight. They will hope that other key players such as Ederson Moraes and Thiago Silva can step up and fill the void left by Moura's absence.
In the meantime, Moura will likely miss the rest of the Clausura (the first half of the season) and may not return until the start of next year's tournament. It's a tough blow for the player himself, but the club will need to find someone else to fill his shoes if they want to avoid the drop.
